Akira Virus :  The Government issued an alert on Ransomware attacks

Attention All Internet Users,

We want to bring your attention to a recent notice issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) regarding the increasing threat of ransomware attacks. In light of this advisory, we strongly advise you to take immediate action to safeguard your systems and networks.

To enhance the security of your systems and protect them from potential ransomware attacks, CERT-In recommends the following preventive measures:

1. Change Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Port:

If you use Remote Desktop Services (RDS) or any other remote access solutions, it is essential to change the default RDP port (TCP port 3389). Changing the default port adds an extra layer of protection by making it more challenging for attackers to identify and target your systems. Choose a random high-numbered port, and ensure it is appropriately configured in your firewall to allow incoming connections.

Instructions on changing the RDP port can be found in our blog section. (link)

2. Change SSH Login Port (if applicable):

For systems using SSH (Secure Shell) for remote access, consider changing the default SSH port (TCP port 22) to a different port number. This step can help deter automated attacks targeting the default port. Make sure to update your SSH server configuration accordingly and adjust the firewall rules to permit the new SSH port.

Instructions on changing the SSH login port can be found in our knowledge base.

3. Install a Good Antivirus Solution:

Ensure you have a reliable and up-to-date antivirus solution installed on all your systems. A good antivirus program helps detect and prevent malicious software, including ransomware, from infecting your devices. Regularly update your antivirus signatures to stay protected against the latest threats.
